The outdoor condenser unit sits outside the house and holds the compressor, the condenser coil, and the fan that pushes heat out. When the system runs but cools poorly, or stops running altogether, those are the components a contractor reaches first. Inside the house, the air handler holds the evaporator coil and the blower that pulls warm air across it. The expansion valve and the refrigerant lines connect the two units, and the thermostat tells the whole system when to run.
